Resolution Copper is one of the largest undeveloped copper projects in the world and has the potential to become the largest copper producer in North America. The Resolution Copper Project is located in the Copper triangle, 60 miles east of Phoenix, Arizona in the United States.
Resolution Copper ( RCM) is a joint venture owned by Rio Tinto and BHP formed to develop and operate an underground copper mine near Superior, Arizona, U.S. The project targets a deep-seated porphyry copper deposit located under the now inactive Magma Mine.
Project Overview. The Resolution Copper deposit ranges from 5,000 to 7,000 ft (1,500 to 2,130 m) below the surface. The deposit’s average grade is estimated at 1.5% copper. The proposed underground mine is expected to become the largest copper mine in North America, capable of producing up to 25 percent of U.S. copper demand each year.

Decisions on whether to invest fully in developing the project, a proposed underground mine located in Arizona and one of the world’s most significant undeveloped copper deposits, remain subject to further permitting processes and a feasibility study that will be conducted over several years.
Project Update (as of February 21, 2023) As directed by USDA, the Forest Service has completed its review of the tribal consultation record for the Resolution Copper Land Exchange Final Environmental Impact Statement.
