Narcos helped at least popularize certain elements of Colombian Culture/History into the mainstream. El Patrón de Mal is a more accurate representation and is for people who want Historical/Cultural authenticity.

In the El Chapo show's first season it shows El Chapo making his bones by meeting with Pablo Escobar directly and Pablo giving him an impossible mission. He was supposed to move some drugs for El Chapo and transport them in an almost impossible amount of time.

He was a domestic terrorist who turned his country into a narcostate after losing out on being an elected official, killed thousands of people that stood in his way, and also called for torturing individuals. Sure he was caring of family and friends, but its easy to distance yourself from people who you’ll never meet.

Before I watched this show, I also watched Narcos, which is an American show with the same theme.
