Leroy Robert "Satchel" Paige (July 7, 1906 – June 8, 1982) was an American professional baseball pitcher who played in Negro league baseball and Major League Baseball (MLB). His career spanned five decades and culminated with his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

2 de abr. de 2014 · A trailblazing player in the Negro Leagues, baseball pitcher Satchel Paige also became the oldest rookie in Major League history and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.
Paige became the first African-American pitcher to pitch in the World Series when he worked two-thirds of an inning in Game 5. Paige pitched for the Indians again in 1949, then spent three seasons with the St. Louis Browns from 1951-53, earning two All-Star Game selections.

He won a World Series title with the Cleveland Indians in 1948 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.
