7 de mar. de 2006 · All of the essence of hip is captured quite nicely on this duo recording by poet Dan Jaffe and pianist Mike Melvoin. Melvoin is a veteran pianist with a performance history that includes Frank Sinatra, Joe Williams, Peggy Lee and Bobby Watson.

Mike Melvoin (May 10, 1937 – February 22, 2012) was an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. He served as chairman and president of The Recording Academy and worked as a prolific studio musician, recording with Frank Sinatra, John Lennon, The Jackson 5, Natalie Cole, and The Beach Boys.

O’s Notes: This duo, Melvoin on piano and Jaffe with spoken word provide and interesting change of pace. The music is like a vamp with the lyrics speaking of jazz history mostly from Jaffe’s Playing The Word, a series of jazz poems. Among the best is “Starting With Langston”.
