He received from the radical journalist William Cobbett the sardonic nicknames “Prosperity Robinson” (for his unwarranted optimism on the eve of the 1825 economic crisis) and “Goody.
But he was not a successful Prime Minister. He was indecisive and unable to mediate between the formidable personalities in his Cabinet. After a letter pleading ill health, he was dismissed by George IV in January 1828, recovering virtually instantaneously. Goderich was born Frederick John Robinson in 1782.
