Bruce Gary (April 7, 1951 – August 22, 2006) was an American musician who was best known as the drummer for the music group the Knack. He was nominated for two Grammy Awards as a stage performer, producer, and recording artist.
Bruce Gary, long considered one of the music world’s most endearing and groovy characters, grew up in the early ’60s in the west San Fernando Valley, not far from Malibu, “The popular music of my peers at that time was a wonderful combination of guitar, keyboards, bass and drums called surf music,” he said in a 2002 interview.

Best known as the drummer for the Knack, he was a Grammy-nominated performer and producer, and an in-demand musician for both studio and live work, having worked with Albert Collins, Jack Bruce, Dr. John, Robby Krieger, Albert King, the Ventures, and many others.
Founding members Doug Fieger, Berton Averre, Bruce Gary and Prescott Niles sculptured a sound which was irresistibly familiar but at the same time unlike anything else which was playing on the radio. Its first performance, June 1, 1978, at the Whisky-A-Go-Go, was a sensation.
