James Henry Cotton (July 1, 1935 – March 16, 2017) [1] was an American blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter, who performed and recorded with many fellow blues artists and with his own band. He also played drums early in his career.

Cotton has been performing professionally since the age of nine and learned directly from the masters – he toured in the bands of Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters. He launched his solo career in the 1960s, releasing almost 30 albums and touring worldwide since then.
