Hai Zi (Chinese: 海子; March 24, 1964 – March 26, 1989) is the pen name of the Chinese poet Zha Haisheng (查海生). He was one of the most famous poets in Mainland China after the Cultural Revolution. He died by suicide, lying in front of a train in Shanhaiguan at the age of 25.

Hai Zi fue una estrella efímera que pertenecía a los “oscuros poetas” que emergieron después de las reformas de 1979. Él deslumbró al mundo dos veces. La primera vez cuando fue aceptado, a la edad de quince años, por la prestigiosa Universidad de Peking; la segunda, cuando cometió suicidio.

Hai Zi (1964–1989) is one of the most influential contemporary Chinese poets. Between 1984 and 1989, he wrote approximately 200 poems and several epics. He died of suicide in March 1989.
