Deputy Chief David Hale was the Deputy Chief of the Charming Police Department on the FX original series Sons of Anarchy. Played by American actor Taylor Sheridan, Hale makes his debut on the episode " Seeds " in season one. Hale plays a recurring role as an antagonist throughout season one and two.

So i'm a big fan of the Shattered Shield podcast and the most recent episode had an awesome interview with Kurt Sutter and he revealed the real reason Hale was killed off was because Taylor Sheridan was just not happy being on the show so Sutter felt like he had no choice but to write off his character, very interesting, never knew that.
I remember when the season was airing and I was like "wtf.. why?" but never figured out why. rewatching on netflix and it just happened again.. why again? did they have a fight onset? Wish he didn’t leave tbh.

Take anyone else, not Hale. Unfortunately, Taylor Sheridan wanted off the show. If you’re on your first watch - do yourself a favor and get off this sub. It was a shocking one, tbh. Half-Sack was a shock in it's own right (first bigger name killed) then Hale is killed AT Sack's funeral.

At the time, Sons of Anarchy 's creator stated that Hale's death had been planned in the event of failed contract negotiations with Sheridan. Now, Sheridan has shared details on why they couldn't reach an agreement.
