18 de jun. de 2023 · My Korean film seen list is small: Parasite, Memories of Murder, Snowpiercer, The Handmaiden, Train to Busan & now Oldboy. Except for Snowpiercer, all 5 of those movies are masterpieces in my eyes. And I am very keen to explore more. For about the first 30 minutes of Oldboy, I wasn't really feeling it.
It was truly completely unique in 2003. Now single/tracking shot action scenes are fairly common ('Daredevil' and 'John Wick' come immediately to mind) but they're all standing on the shoulders of Oldboy. Exactly this. I remember when people were blown away by the Daredevil hallway scene.

For those of you who haven’t seen the seminal revenge tale that is Park Chan-Wook’s Oldboy, please, go and watch it before you read this. Oldboy is, well, a brilliant film that uses foreshadowing, metaphors and cinematography to tell its tale better than most films of present day.
According to this page it is available on Netflix in Austria Germany Denmark and Finland. So, if you use a VPN, you'll be able to watch it on netflix. Or you can buy the DVD or Blu-Ray on ebay. Just search Oldboy full movie subtitled on google.
20 de may. de 2021 · Oldboy is a perfect Korean gateway movie. I actually loved The Handmaiden (same director) approximately as much as Oldboy, but I would say The Handmaiden is less accessible (its a long historical epic, compared to Oldboy being a tight 90 minute thriller). ***also, since you mention Memories of Murder, thats a great fuckin movie.

I need like... 5 days to get over this mind-boggling afterglow, and maybe 15 years to fully comprehend everything I just saw. I've been on a PCW movie kick lately, and finally decided to watch Oldboy after months of procrastinating.
