Remember how possessive Griffith is over his band of the hawk. Especially over guts. I took the moment in the wagon as evidence that Griffith didn't do all that he did during the eclipse because of demonic influence, but because he was given the power to do it by demons. The desire to control and subjugate/manipulate was always within him.
Griffith was an ambitious selfish guy, he had a lot of flaws, but evil wasn't one of them. He decided to threw his goodness and turn evil. And that was wrong. His action was evil, but please don't try to put that Golden Age Griffith was the devil all along. Dumbass do that, berserk has realistic morality.

Under Australian law, his actions would be considered 'assault with an act of indecency,' while his attempt to strangle Guts would be considered 'common assault.'. Judging by his conversation with Guts after the Godhand intervened in Guts’ battle with The Count, Griffith now viewed Guts as a pitiful existence that he couldn’t care less about.

Everyone they knew and loved was killed before their eyes, their minds were damaged along with their bodies, and it was carried out by one of the only peopld in the world they had allowed themselves to trust.

I know all of you hate Griffith (well me too) for what he did during the eclipse (especially post eclipse)but what many people fail to understand is that Griffith's mental health after the torture was very critical.
