Michael Haneke made shot-to-shot remake of his 1997 “Funny Games”. In my opinion he improved everything in the remake. It’s a rare occasion where director remakes his own work making it better. I’d recommend watching original first tho. Then after some times trying “Funny Games U.S.” .

Funny Games - both versions - aren’t about telling a traditional story, but making the audience consider how and why they consume entertainment. Instead of giving us our “treats” - like nudity, or a comeuppance for the villains - the film withholds them, and asks WHY that’s what we wanted.
Funny Games (alternatively titled Funny Games U.S.) is a 2007 psychological horror-thriller film written and directed by Michael Haneke, and a remake of his own 1997 film of the same title. Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Michael Pitt, and Brady Corbet star in the main roles.
The original was so ahead of its time and was so tense, it Still holds up. The remake was ok but if you’ve not seen either then start with the first. You may go on to like the second better, but if not don’t watch it first then spoil the original.
