The Istanbul University State Conservatory (Turkish: İstanbul Üniversitesi Devlet Konservatuarı) is a music, theatre, dance university in Istanbul. It is the oldest conservatory and the oldest continually operating music school in Turkey. It offers music training from secondary school to doctorate.
Founded in 1453, the Istanbul University gained its current name and status in 1924. The Conservatory was established in 1914 and was the first in Turkey. It was later expanded to include departments of theatre and ballet as well as music and opera, gaining its current name in 1986.
Since 2008, two new sections have been opened within the Department of Theater Criticism and Dramaturgy, namely “Theater Criticism and Theory Department” and “Dramaturgy and Dramatic Writing Art Department”, and the activities of the department have expanded.
