Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen (Adelaide Amelia Louise Theresa Caroline; 13 August 1792 – 2 December 1849) was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Queen of Hanover from 26 June 1830 to 20 June 1837 as the wife of King William IV.
15 de mar. de 2017 · Amalie Adelheid Louise Therese Caroline or Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen was born on 13 August 1792 as the daughter of George I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, and Luise Eleonore of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. She lost her father when she was just ten years old, and her mother acted as regent for her younger brother.
Queen of William IV and eldest daughter of George, Duke of Saxe-Coburg Meiningen. The untimely death of Princess Charlotte, the daughter of George, Prince Regent, in 1817 prompted the unmarried sons of George III to find brides in order to beget legitimate heirs to throne.
Princess Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen was born in Germany. At the age of twenty-five she was married to the fifty-two year old William, Duke of Clarence. The duke was the third son of King George III and next in line to the British throne after his brother, George IV, who had no heir.
Adelaide (1792–1849), was the eldest child of George Frederick Charles, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen. She married William, Duke of Clarence (1765–1837), later William IV, in 1818. William succeeded to the throne on the death of George IV, on 26 June 1830 and was in turn succeeded by his niece Queen Victoria as the couple remained childless.
