I'Ve never heard that about Niven David Niven joined the HLI from Sandhurst and was stationed in Malta At Sandhurst when asked to write his 3 preferred regiments he wrote ' anything but the HLI' Roy Urquhart latter of Arnhem fame was one of his brother officers IIRC he was on leave in the US and he sent his CO a telegram ...
27 de ene. de 2007 · 28 Jan 2007. #21. While driving back to London from Godalming in the summer of 1940, when invasion precautions were high, Niven got tired of being repeatedly held-up at road-blocks. To expedite matters he decided to change into uniform and pulled off the Hogs Back to do so.
27 de ago. de 2024 · Niven played the part of the Platoon commander on a break from his real-life rank of Lt Col as a squadron commander in Phantom, whilst Ustinov (a Private) co-wrote the screenplay and played a cameo role as the feelthy French cafe owner, and did it rather well IMHO, especially the darts match. I thoroughly recommend The Way Ahead.
Rifle Depot, Motor Battalion, in Winchester. He was then sent to GHQ Liason Regiment at Richmond Park in early 1941 under Major David Niven. He became a very good wireless & communications operator being excellent at morse code. Major David Niven then appointed him his personal driver & wireless operator & they became great friends apparently.

Christian Bale and Amy Adams play two con artists caught in one of their scams by an over-ambitious FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) and coerced into his scheme to bring down corrupt politicians. Bale is unrecognisable in dark glasses and a ridiculous wig which Cooper seemingly tries to out-do with his permed hair.

A bit of David Niven's The Moon's a Balloon probably can't hurt either. Save The Utility of Force and Infantry Attacks until you aren't suffering from sleep deprivation!
Woopert. One of the original band of moderators from when ARRSE was written on a scroll rather than this inter-web-thingy. Charming and erudite and certainly in the "David Niven School of class, breeding, and culture". A "Trog" by virtue of the fact that no-one better would have him, still, "someone has to raise the standards"!
