Brosnan was born on 16 May 1953 [5] in Drogheda, County Louth, [5] the only child of May (née Smith) and Thomas Brosnan, a carpenter. He has the same name as his grandfather, Pierce Brosnan, whose first name was in honour of his mother Margaret Pierce.
