The Rope Snake has two unused enemy forms in Mother 3; one with a grid background, and another with the close-up Claus. It is possible that the Rope Snake was originally intended to be fought at some point.
In Mother 3. Rope Snake is owned by Duster, being first bought from a ghost in Osohe Castle in Chapter 2. Rope Snake can grab onto various objects and act as a tether, capable of supporting Duster perfectly fine.

Mother 3's final battle is sad, but it was driven a lot by dialogue. A dialogueless final battle, if it was anything like what the unused background suggested, would be as nightmarish is Earthbound's Giygas battle.

In the northeastern-most house, Duster and Rope Snake are tied up with a couple of Mr. Saturns, and Lucas and company manage to defeat the Pigmasks and their Frightbots, clearing them out of the village.
