The Great Bear Rainforest is the largest coastal temperate rainforest in the world, boasting more than six million hectares (16 million acres). The area’s incredible biodiversity is protected to maintain its ecological integrity, including 1,000-year-old spruce and cedar trees.
High rainfall, humid air and melted mountain snow in the spring fills countless lakes, streams, wetlands and rivers that flow down to the sea throughout the Great Bear Rainforest. The exposed outer coast has an intricate shoreline with narrow channels and steep-walled fjords that provide ecologically complex estuaries, calm inlets and pocket coves.
It is located on the West Coast of Canada, stretching from Vancouver Island to the Alaska Panhandle. The Great Bear Rainforest is home to a variety of wildlife, including iconic Spirit Gear, Grizzly Bears, Sea Lions, Sea Otters, Humpback and Killer Whales, and more.
