The serotonin transporter removes serotonin from the synaptic cleft back into the synaptic boutons. Thus, it terminates the effects of serotonin and simultaneously enables its reuse by the presynaptic neuron. Neurons communicate by using chemical messengers like serotonin between cells.
24 de jul. de 2018 · The serotonin transporter (SERT) is responsible for the reuptake of free 5-HT in the synaptic cleft; this is, in fact, the mechanism of action exploited by selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), typically used as antidepressants or anxiolytic therapy.
1 de dic. de 2021 · The serotonin transporter (SERT) terminates serotonin signaling by using sodium and chloride gradients to drive reuptake of serotonin into presynaptic neurons and is the target of widely used medications to treat neuropsychiatric disorders.
20 de jul. de 2022 · Systematic reviews, meta-analyses and large data-set analyses in the following areas were identified: serotonin and serotonin metabolite, 5-HIAA, concentrations in body fluids; serotonin...
20 de mar. de 2020 · Serotonin (5-HT) transmission is involved in many basic brain functions, such as regulation of mood, sleep, appetite, and sexual drive 1. The serotonin transporter (SERT) is embedded in the...
28 de jul. de 2016 · Serotonin transporters (SERTs) are largely recognized for one aspect of their function—to transport serotonin back into the presynaptic terminal after its release. Another aspect of their function, however, may be to generate currents large enough to have physiological consequences.
30 de sept. de 2023 · The serotonin transporter (5-HTT) critically shapes serotonin neurotransmission by regulating extracellular brain serotonin levels; it remains unclear to what extent 5-HTT levels in the human...
