The Democracy Index published by the Economist Group is an index measuring the quality of democracy across the world. This quantitative and comparative assessment is centrally concerned with democratic rights and democratic institutions.

El índice de democracia (en inglés: Democracy Index) es una clasificación hecha por la Unidad de Inteligencia de The Economist (EIU por sus siglas en inglés), a través de la cual se pretende determinar el rango de democracia en 167 países, de los cuales 166 son estados soberanos y 165 son Estados miembros de las Naciones Unidas.
The Democracy Index measures the state of democracy in 167 countries and territories based on five categories. It shows that democracy is in decline worldwide, with only 8% of the population living in a full democracy and 37% under authoritarian rule.
