Henry Flynt (born 1940 in Greensboro, North Carolina) is an American philosopher, musician, writer, activist, and artist connected to the 1960s New York avant-garde. He coined the term " concept art " in the early 1960s, during which time he was associated with figures in the Fluxus scene.
2 de oct. de 2012 · Henry Flynt is a mathematician, musician, artist, and philosopher who coined the term “concept art” in 1961. He also protested against “Serious Culture” and composed music with Catherine Christer Hennix. His retrospective, “Activities 1959–,” is on view in Germany.
Henry Flynt is an original philosopher and opponent of traditional science and mathematics. He has called for a higher civilization based on incredulity and the mutability of the experiential world.
American experimental violinist and philosopher, who produced much of his music from the period between 60s and 80s. A number of reissues of his old material introduced his work to larger American public. He also was a member of Velvet Underground for a short time.

This chapter discusses traces the path taken by the maverick composer, philosopher and activist Henry Flynt in the early 1960s, from a position at the heart of New York's downtown avant‐garde community, to his radical repudiation of the avant‐garde under the influence of the Marxist‐Leninist Workers World Party (WWP).
