William Byrd. Compositor británico. Nació en Lincoln, de cuya catedral fue organista entre 1563 y 1572, año en que inicia su trabajo en la Chapel Royal. En el año 1575 la reina Isabel I le concede junto a su maestro, Thomas Tallis, el monopolio de imprimir y vender partituras musicales.
