He valiantly battled and endured major medical issues until he peacefully succumbed. Jimmy was known as a highly gifted upright bassist in the jazz and blues community.

Roomful of Blues is an American jump blues and swing revival big band based in Rhode Island. With a recording career that spans over 50 years, they have toured worldwide and recorded many albums. Roomful of Blues, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, "Swagger, sway and swing with energy and precision". [1]
For Roomful ’ s 1980 album, Hot Little Mama, guitarist Ronnie Earl, bassist Jimmy Wimpfheimer and trumpeter Bob Enos were recruited. Earl added a sharper guitar tone to the band with his Fender Stratocaster (as opposed to Robillard ’ s mellower arch top sound), but the group retained their big band flavor nonetheless.
