Klymaxx is an American all-female pop / R&B band from Los Angeles, California. The band's classic lineup consisted of Bernadette Cooper, Lorena Porter Shelby, Cheryl Cooley, Robbin Grider, Lynn Malsby, and Joyce "Fenderella" Irby. Klymaxx is best known for their 1985 international hit "I Miss You".
Klymaxx's original members are (vocalist, drummer) Bernadette Cooper, (vocalist) Lorena Porter (Stewart), (guitarist) Cheryl Cooley, (keyboardists) Lynn Malsby, (keyboardists) Robbin Grider and Bassist/ vocalist, Joyce Irby, was added later after the band signed to Solar records.
Written and co-produced by Klymaxx keyboardist Lynn Malsby, the song was released as the album's third single. "I Miss You" eventually reached number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, number 2 on the New Zealand Singles Chart, and number 1 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart.
This new combination of talents brought immediate benefits as Klymaxx broke into the R&B Top 5 with The Men All Pause and Meeting In The Ladies Room. For the next single – I Miss You – Klymaxx switched from funk to lush. Written and sung by Lynn Malsby, the pretty ballad became Klymaxx’ only Top 10 pop hit.
Cheryl Cooley (guitar), Lynn Malsby (piano), and Lorena Hardimon (lead vocals), now Lorena Stewart were all original members. Joyce Irby (bass & lead vocals) joined from the east coast and Robbin Grider rounded out the six original members who were still in the group when Klymaxx had success.
