Richard John Whitney (born 24 June 1944), also known as John "Charlie" Whitney, John Whitney and Charlie Whitney, is an English rock musician and a founder member of the bands Family, Streetwalkers and Axis Point .
John “Charlie” Whitney, an integral part of the British rock band Family, occupies a significant place in music history. With his innovative guitar playing, Whitney helped define the band’s eclectic sound, which seamlessly blended rock, folk, jazz, and psychedelia.
The Farinas originally consisted of John "Charlie" Whitney, Tim Kirchin (born around 1944, Birstall, Leicestershire died circa 2000), Harry Ovenall (born Richard Harry Ovenall, 12 September 1943, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire), and Jim King, forming at Leicester Art College in 1962.
Streetwalkers were an English rock band formed in late 1973 by two former members of rock band Family, vocalist Roger Chapman and guitarist John "Charlie" Whitney. They were a five piece band which evolved from the Chapman Whitney Band.
Family’s original band members included John “Charlie” Whitney (guitar, sitar, keyboards), Harry Ovenall (drums, percussion), Ric Grech (bass, cello, violin, vocals), Jim King (saxophone, harmonica, piano) and Roger Chapman (vocals, harmonica, saxophone).
27 de feb. de 2024 · On 12 June 1976 they made their first appearance for John Peel on his “Peel Sessions” recorded by BBC radio, with the line-up of Chapman, Whitney, Tench, Plotel and McBrain and would be featured by Peel once more as a “Peel session”, on March 14, 1977.
