Robert Edward Layton (2 May 1930 – 9 November 2020) was an English musicologist and music critic.
Robert Layton was a leading authority on Scandinavian and Nordic music, and a co-author of the Penguin Guide to Recorded Classical Music. He also worked for the BBC, wrote books and articles, and received the Sibelius medal and the Order of the White Rose.

The passing of music writer Robert Layton (2 May 1930 – 9 November 2020) afflicts me with a sense of loss. I suspect I am not alone in this. It will be shared with those who found and find a moving fascination with Scandinavian music.
