Until 2009, the band were active as a predominantly studio project led by Spawton and co-founder Andy Poole (bass, keyboards and guitars), who departed the band in 2018, with changing line-ups and guest musicians. They have released fifteen studio albums and six EPs.
1 de ene. de 2018 · Big Big Train have announced that founder member Andy Poole is to leave the band. Poole founded Big Big Train with Greg Spawton in Bournemouth in 1990, where he originally played bass, and has been in every incarnation of the band since.

BIG BIG TRAIN was formed by Andy POOLE and Greg SPAWTON. They were joined by Ian COOPER (keyboards), Steve HUGHES (drums) and Canadian vocalist Martin READ. Initial influences on the band's music included Steve HACKETT, Anthony PHILLIPS, IT BITES and PREFAB SPROUT.
