Rabindranath Tagore, of Thakur (Calcutta, 7 mei 1861 - aldaar, 7 augustus 1941) was een beroemd dichter, roman- en toneelschrijver. Tevens beoefende hij de schilderkunst en sprak ook Esperanto. Hij was bovendien de eerste Indiase winnaar van de Nobelprijs voor Literatuur in 1913. Tagore schreef het Indiase en het Bengaalse volkslied.
