The Linacre Anthropology Scholarship was jointly created by a group of supportive Linacre alumni and friends of College. The scholarship is tenable for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years, subject to fee liability and satisfactory academic progress. Value: £3,500. Number available: 1.
Renamed Linacre College in 1965, the graduate community moved to a new site at Cherwell Edge on St Cross Road. This was opened in 1977 by the Chancellor of the University, Harold Macmillan. Linacre College was founded on 1 August 1962, in what was formerly St Catherine’s Society, now St Catherine’s College.The Founding Principal was John Bamborough, who described it as “a deliberate experiment by the University to see whether the needs of graduate students could be met by a new type of society.. There were 115 members of Linacre College, of whom only 30 were British.
