On the advice of the Regent, Louis-Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne, Count of Evreux, acquired marsh land in 1718 on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, which at the time was a simple road lined with cottages in the middle of the woods, to build himself a mansion worthy of his status.
