Early life. Robert George Victor FitzGeorge-Balfour was born on 15 September 1913 at Knightsbridge, London.He was the son of Robert Shekelton Balfour and Mabel Iris FitzGeorge. After his father's death in 1942, his mother married, in 1945, Russian émigré, Prince Vladimir Galitzine, former aide-de-camp to Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich, commander in chief of the Imperial Russian Army.
Early life. Prince George was born at Cambridge House, Hanover. His father was Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge, the seventh son of King George III and Queen Charlotte. His mother was the Duchess of Cambridge (née Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel).. Career. Adolphus FitzGeorge entered the Royal Navy in March 1859. He became sub-lieutenant in 1865 and a lieutenant in the following year. In June 1867 he joined the Galatea, screw frigate, commanded by Captain the Duke of Edinburgh, and in March 1872 was appointed Flag Lieutenant to Admiral Sir Rodney Mundy, Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth.
