Magnolia is my favorite PTA film by a mile. It's messy, but it's also outrageously ambitious. Watching it is one of the rare instances where you feel the filmmakers set out with the mindset that they would make The Greatest Movie of All Time, and the final result didn't end up as an Icarus story. It's a dazzling, dizzying, and maximal showcase of distinctly cinematic form.
