I've always had mixed feelings about Yoshitaka Amano's artwork. On one hand, it looks elaborate and unique. But the character designs, most especially Celes', I was never a fan of. Compare her yellow suit to the green battle garb she wears in her sprite in FFVI. I always preferred that look.
Yoshitaka Amano > Nomura. Always. As much as I like Amano's concept arts most of the character designs actually were done by Squares graphics team and character designers. It is not like Vivi was designed by Amano, it was designed by Itahana Toshiyuki and original black mage by Koichi Ishii.

10 de jul. de 2019 · To call him a 'video game artist' would do Amano no justice: his work has the same poignancy in art galleries as it has in manga books, and works as well in illustration and games as in costume design.
