The Crusade was briefly but centrally associated with Panait Istrati, world-renowned novelist and dissident communist, who, before his death in early 1935, added into the mix of "Romanianism" some elements of libertarian socialism.
Panait Istrati (Brăila, 10 de agosto de 1884 - Bucarest, 18 de abril de 1935) fue un escritor rumano de origen griego del realismo que utilizó en su obra principalmente la lengua francesa. Fue muy popular en su momento y se le aplicó el sobrenombre de el Gorki de los Balcanes.

13 de dic. de 2018 · Aislado y desprotegido, Panait Istrati murió en el Sanatorio Filareto de Bucarest. Su cuerpo fue enterrado en el cementerio de Bellu. A partir de entonces, será olvidado incluso por la izquierda marxista y libertaria, y no no será hasta década más tarde que volverá a ser valorado.

Biografía de Panait Istrati. Estudió en la escuela primaria en Baldovinesti, dedicándose después a los más variados oficios. Lector empedernido, tuvo formación autodidacta, y comenzó su carrera publicando artículos y escribiendo relatos cortos.
