Enrico Fermi ( Roma, 29 de septiembre de 1901- Chicago, 28 de noviembre de 1954) fue un físico italiano naturalizado estadounidense conocido por el desarrollo del primer reactor nuclear y sus contribuciones al desarrollo de la teoría cuántica, la física nuclear y de partículas, y la mecánica estadística.

The emigres over the 1930s included Einstein, Theodore von Karman, John von Neumann, Eugene Wigner, Leo Szilard, Hans Bethe, Edward Teller, Lise Meitner, Enrico Fermi, and many others. Although not Jewish, Enrico Fermi had married a Jewish woman, and he feared and despised Mussolini's anti-Semitism.
Tras completar sus estudios en el extranjero, obtuvo su primera cátedra de física teórica en Roma, en el instituto de Via Panisperna, donde inició el periodo más fructífero de su actividad científica a la cabeza del grupo de jóvenes que llevaba el nombre de la calle homónima.
