When he died around 1576, only the part devoted to Africa was completed, and Giulio as well as Saraceni, his friend, were able to engrave all the maps and to publish the work at the end in 1588. The atlas (Geografia dell ‘Africa) contained 12 maps (engravings) provided with numerous comments.

Livio Sanuto (1520 – 1576) was a Venetian cartographer and scientific instrument maker produced, with his engraver brother, Giulio (fl. 1540-1588) – an array of some of the most important geographical works produced in Venice during the second half of the sixteenth century.
This authentic antique map of Africa was published by Abraham Ortellius in 1588. It was taken from Ortelius’ Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first modern atlas, which was widely produced for over 40 years in 7 different languages.
