While the platoon is extracting via helicopter, they glimpse Elias, mortally wounded, emerging from the treeline and being chased by a group of North Vietnamese soldiers, who kill him. Noting Barnes' anxious manner, Taylor realizes that he was responsible.

Platoon is largely based on Stone’s genuine experiences, with some incidents drawn directly from real life. One such scene directly based on reality comes when Charlie Sheen ‘s Chris saves a Vietnamese girl from being assaulted.
11 de nov. de 2020 · As the platoon departs on helicopters, Taylor witnesses the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) gun down Dafoe's character; a moment which ultimately fuels the final act conflict. Back at the base, Taylor suggests that Barnes should be fragged, or killed by his own men, for his despicable actions on the battlefield.
