Telecasters. Although mostly associated with the Stratocaster, David Gilmour has always been a big fan of Telecasters. His very first Fender guitar was a Telecaster and over the years, David has recorded and performed numerous songs with this classic guitar.

David’s Telecaster is a 1959 Custom model with what looks like a brown burst finish, but probably started off as a 3-tone sunburst and the red tone faded away over the years. The guitar has an 8-hole pickguard, which is non-original to the guitar, and typical of the early 60s Telecasters.

He also has a vast collection of guitars that he has used over the years which includes several other Strats, Telecasters, Les Pauls, and more.
On March 6, 1967, his 21st birthday, David Gilmour received a Fender Telecaster as a gift, the first really good guitar he owned. Before the end of that year, Gilmour had already used it in one of the most famous bands of that time, Pink Floyd.

David Gilmour’s 1960s Fender Telecaster. David received this Fender Telecaster guitar in March 1967 as a present from his parents for his 21st birthday. It was the guitar he had with him when he joined Pink Floyd, and the guitar he used with his early band, Bullitt.
