Parker Bilal. In 2012, Mahjoub began publishing crime fiction under the pseudonym "Parker Bilal". The Golden Scales (2012) was the first of a ten novel series set in Cairo featuring the exiled Sudanese detective Makana. So far only six books have been published with a further four planned.
The Author. Parker Bilal was born in London and raised in Khartoum, since then he has lived in a number of places, including South Wales, Sheffield, London, Cairo, Aarhus, Barcelona and Amsterdam. He speaks a number of languages including English and has published fiction and non-fiction.
Jamal Mahjoub writes explorative pieces about Africa. Parker Bilal, on the other hand, writes crime thrillers. Jamal created Parker Bilal by taking the names of his German refugee and Nubian Boatman grandfathers and combining them. Parker is best known for his Makana books.

Parker Bilal is the pseudonym of Jamal Mahjoub, the critically acclaimed literary novelist. Dark Water is the sixth novel in the Makana Investigations series, the third of which, The Ghost Runner, was longlisted for the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award.
The “Makana Mystery” series is from the mystery genre and is written by Parker Bilal (which is the pen name of author Jamal Mahjoub). The series started in the year 2012 with the release of “The Golden Scales”.
