The John skin is based on the Militant prior to the Overhaul Update when it was called John. Interestingly, the Beach skin was called the Miami Militant in a development screenshot of the Gift Box menu.

Due to the nature of the 30% damage increase, towers dealing only 1, 2 or 3 damage will not see any noticeable difference. John's ability can stack with other towers damage buffs, with no reduced effects.
