KING ANAWRAHTA. King Anawrahta (reigned 1044-77) was the first king of all of Myanmar. He unified the Burman people, introduced them to Theravada Buddhism and set Bagan on the road to magnificence and splendor. During his reign Anawrahta united the northern homeland of the Myanmar people with the Mon kingdoms of the south.
