George Granville Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 2nd Duke of Sutherland, KG (8 August 1786 – 27 February 1861), styled Viscount Trentham until 1803, Earl Gower between 1803 and 1833 and Marquess of Stafford in 1833, was a British peer and Whig politician from the Leveson-Gower family.
The 2nd Duke of Sutherland subscribed to J.S. Buckingham’s anti-slavery The Slave States of America (London and Paris, 1842). His wife Harriet advocated for the abolition of slavery in America and, in 1853, hosted Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, when she visited Britain.
