Lionel Cranfield Sackville, 1st Duke of Dorset KG PC (18 January 1688 – 10 October 1765) was an English peer and politician who served as Lord President of the Council from 1745 to 1751. He also twice served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1730 to 1737 and again from 1750 to 1755.

It was created in 1720 for the politician Lionel Sackville, 7th Earl of Dorset . History. The Sackville family descended from Sir Richard Sackville. His only surviving son, Thomas Sackville, was a statesman, poet and dramatist and notably served as Lord High Treasurer between 1599 and 1608.
Lionel Cranfield Sackville, 1st Duke of Dorset Lord Warden 1708 – 13, 1719 – 65 The Duke of Dorset, whose main residence was Knole, near Sevenoaks, Kent, was one of the key supporters of the Hanoverian succession to the throne of Great Britain in 1714.
The new king appointed him to positions in the royal household and to the privy council, and created him 1st duke of Dorset in 1720; during the absence of the monarch he served on seven occasions as a lord justice of Britain between 1725 and 1752.
