Richard John Seddon PC (22 June 1845 – 10 June 1906) was a New Zealand politician who served as the 15th premier (prime minister) of New Zealand from 1893 until his death. In office for thirteen years, he is to date New Zealand's longest-serving head of government .

Seddon, an ardent imperialist, sent troops to the South African War, dazzled imperial conferences, royal jubilees and coronations, and carved out a mini empire for New Zealand in the Pacific. His well-publicised excursions into Maori enclaves extended the empire domestically.

Richard John Seddon became premier following the death of John Ballance. Immortalised as ‘King Dick’, Seddon was to dominate the New Zealand political landscape for the next 13 years. He remains this country’s longest-serving premier or prime minister.
