Tan Xinpei (23 April 1847 – 10 May 1917) was a Chinese Peking opera artist who specialized in sheng roles. A disciple of Cheng Changgeng, Tan Xinpei was undoubtedly the most important Peking opera performer of his generation. Some of his audio recordings have survived.

Written by Wang Yongqing and directed by Wang and Yang Zhaoheng, the production tells the story of Tan Xinpei, a master of Peking Opera, focusing on the period from 1902 to 1908.

Widely sung during his lifetime, his arias were notated and published as music scores after his death.

Written by Wang and co-directed by him and Yang Zhaoheng, the production focuses on Tan's life from 1902 to 1908.
