Dame Thora Hird DBE (28 May 1911 – 15 March 2003) was an English actress. In a career spanning over 70 years, she appeared in more than 100 films, as well as many television roles, becoming a household name and a British institution.
Thora Hird consiguió su mayor fama trabajando en las comedias televisivas, destacando entre ellas las sitcoms Meet the Wife (1963-66), In Loving Memory (1979-86), Hallelujah 1983-1984) y, durante casi dos décadas, Last of the Summer Wine (1986-2003).
In a career than spanned eight decades, Thora Hird was widely-regarded as one of Britain's finest character actresses. She made over 100 films as well as starring in a host of TV comedies and, as a straight actress, excelled in the works of playwright Alan Bennett.
