James Robert Haslip (born December 31, 1951) is an American bass guitarist who was a founding member of the jazz fusion group the Yellowjackets, which he left in 2012. He was also an early user of the five-string electric bass.

Jimmy Haslip was born December 31st, 1951 in the Bronx, New York. He grew up in Huntington, Long Island. In 1963 at the age of 13, he became interested in electric bass and has now been playing for 47+ years.

Citing inspiration from Motown and Atlantic records of the 1960s to jazz and Latin music, his familiarity with a wide range of genres made it feasible, if not obvious, to fuse them together.
