Peter Lorrimer Whitehead (8 January 1937 – 10 June 2019) was an English writer and filmmaker who documented the counterculture in London and New York in the late 1960s.

Peter Whitehead was born on 8 January 1937 in Liverpool, England, UK. He was a director and cinematographer, known for Fire in the Water (1977), Terrorism Considered as One of the Fine Arts (2009) and The Benefit of the Doubt (1967).
Between 2009 and 2014 I worked very closely with the film-maker and novelist Peter Whitehead. I acted as Curator and Director of what he termed The Nohzone Archive, a voluminous collection of his papers, artefacts and film materials.
