According to the Islamic doctrine, Zakariyā (Arabic: زكريا, Zechariah) is a prophet of God, and a father of the prophet Yahya.
This is the story of a feeble old man who loved and feared God; an elderly man, named Zachary (also called Zachariah), who had spent his life gaining knowledge and teaching others, purely for God’s pleasure. The Quran tells his story in Chapters 3 and 19, and it is similar to the story told in the Christian Gospel of Luke [1].
Prophet Zakariyah (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) was a man of humble means but always eager to help those in need. “ Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Zakariyya was a carpenter." (Sahih hadith from Sunan Ibn Majah 2150 as well as Sahih Muslim 2379)
Zechariah (Hebrew: זְכַרְיָה Zəḵaryā, "remember Yah"; Greek: Ζαχαρίας; Zacharias in KJV; Zachary in the Douay–Rheims Bible; Zakariyya (Arabic: زكـريـا, romanized: Zakariyyā) in Islamic tradition) is a Jewish figure in the New Testament and the Quran, and venerated in Christianity and Islam.
Zacarías (en árabe زكريّا, Zakarīya) 7 es para los musulmanes uno de los profetas del islam y su historia es relatada en el Corán. El islam dice que fue protector de María, madre de Jesús, y que era el padre de Juan el Bautista. Los musulmanes también creen que Zacarías fue un mártir.
Prophet Zakariya (AS) is a respected prophet (Zachariah) in the traditions of Christianity as well as Islam. In the Quran and the Bible, we also know him as the father of Prophet Yahya (AS). We can find his story in the Quran in Surah Maryam, where Allah narrates details about him and his family.
Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyā (Arabic: يحيى ابن زكريا , literally Yahya/John, son of Zechariah), identified in English as John the Baptist, is considered in Islam a prophet of God who was sent to guide the Children of Israel.
