Marian Huxley Collier was the daughter of Thomas Henry Huxley (1825 – 1895), an English biologist known as ‘Darwin’s bulldog’ for his defence of Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.
Collier's first wife, in 1879, was Marian Huxley (Mady). She was a painter who studied, like her husband, at the Slade and exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere. In 1881, the couple settled in Tite Street, Chelsea, in a purpose-built studio house, alongside their friend Anna Lea Merritt. [2] .
